Now that the dark and gloomy winter months have finally passed and the evenings are getting longer and brighter, it’s time to start planning your summer trip to Dublin! During the summer, Dublin is a hive of activity with events, festivals and parades every weekend. Here are the biggest ones, not to be missed!

Weather

The Emerald Isle is known for its rolling green hills and the beautiful wild flora that goes with it but what makes us so green isn’t quite so gorgeous. We get between 151-225 days of rain every year which helps our lush greenery grow. Luckily, there is a naturally occurring phenomenon that happens each year in Ireland around the time the secondary school students are completing their final exams. The leaving Cert starts around 5th June and lasts roughly three weeks and it’s the one time of the year that we are (almost!) guaranteed great weather!

Music

The Dublin Music scene is busy and loud all year-round, but summer is festival season in the city and you can look forward to some very special acts this June. One of the highlights of the festival season is Forbidden Fruit, close to Dublin City Centre in a colourful area called Kilmainham. This year it starts on 1st June for three days and has a huge line-up including Skepta, Elbow and a great range of alternative artists. It’s one of those great day-time festivals where you don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything by not camping and you can return after a great sleep and a hot shower in DCU Rooms each evening.

Food

We can’t think of a better type of festival than a gourmet food and drinks showcase and this year from 13-16th June our dreams are coming true. Taste of Dublin is an annual food and drink festival which takes place in Dublin’s stunning Iveagh Gardens. It is a chance for restaurants, food producers and artisan food & drink companies to show off their finest wares while offering plenty of free samples and champagne. There is a variety of musical entertainment and cooking demos across the festival so you can enjoy a leisurely afternoon. Tickets start from the bargain price of €15.00 and If you’re a bona fide foodie this is one event you can’t miss

Pride Parade

One of Dublin’s most colourful events happens each June in Dublin, celebrating all things LGBTQ. On 29th June, the city becomes a literally rainbow both of colours and people. The parade, and the festival, are completely 100% inclusive of all peoples no matter their gender, sexual preference, age and social standing. It’s a place where we can all feel safe to express ourselves and celebrate how far the LGBTQ rights activists have brought our country in the past 40+ years. DCU is proud to be a supporter of The Gay Pride Movement and we love to welcome groups and individuals attending the parade each year. If you are looking for comfortable accommodation in Dublin over any (or all!) of the below events in June, DCU Rooms is an affordable alternative to your usual hotel stay. We also offer great group accommodation options as well as family stays.
