Celebrate Dublin Pride Festival at DCU Rooms

The Pride Parade Festival 2020 takes place on June 27th. The festival starts from 1 pm on O’Connel Street and travels through the city to Merrion Square.

At DCU Rooms we are happy to be based in a city with such a big focus on Pride festival. To welcome those from out of the city we have rates from just €41 per person sharing.

When did Pride Festival start?

In Ireland, the first routes of Pride started in June 1974 when 10 people took part in a march to protest the criminalization of homosexuality. Pride marches have taken places all over the world since the 1970’s to take a positive stance towards the decriminalization and against violence towards the LGBT community. Though homosexuality was not totally decriminalized Ireland until 1993 parades took place on O’Connell street again in 1983 with just 200 people this has grown to about 60’000 people in 2018.

Why attend the Dublin Pride Festival?

Since decriminalization in the 1990’s Ireland has come a very long way for human rights becoming the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage by public vote in 2015. Dublin City Centre is the hub of the festival with events taking place the whole month of June – now known as Pride month.

Pride at DCU

Dublin City University has their own LGBT society who organize fun events for the college as well as serious campaigns for human and LGBT rights. This June we were proud to host the Union Cup – Europe’s biggest inclusive rugby tournament, this year a men’s and women’s tournament was held.
