Some say Dublin is best in Summer when the sun is shining but we disagree. We love the cool mornings, cosy evenings and festive cheer that Winter brings. We can’t guarantee it won’t rain but we can guarantee a great stay in our value hotel on the edge of Dublin City – DCU Rooms. Fill your visit to Dublin with plenty of exciting things to see and do in and around the city.

Things to do in Dublin

Explore Dublin History

We’re used to bad weather round these parts, that’s why a lot of our public attractions are indoors! Visit Dublin City museums, galleries and exhibitions for a unique look at life before we got here. The National Museum of Ireland shows us Ireland’s decorative arts & archaeological history, our National Gallery displays the finest works from Irish and international artists and the Modern Art Museum will take you on an artistic journey through mixed media.

Explore Dublin’s Pub Culture

At the heart of Dublin’s culture lies in our pub scene. The city is full of modern pubs, stylish bars and cosy corners to enjoy a pint of the black stuff or catch up with friends. If you want to learn more about how our pubs are stocked with the best Irish drinks, visit some of the many distilleries and breweries dotted around the city. The Guinness Brewery is a must-do, as is drinking a pint in the Gravity Bar with the best views of the city. You can also enjoy a visit to the nearby Pearse Lyons, Teelings or Jameson distilleries for a sneak peek at how these delicious Whiskeys are made and pick up a bottle to take home. Remember – it never rains in the pub!

Christmas Events in Dublin

‘Tis the season – finally! Christmas is such an exciting time in Dublin with thousands of twinkling lights illuminating every corner of our fair city, busy shoppers getting the ‘last few bits for Christmas’ and an air of festive excitement.
We still don’t know what way Christmas will look in 2021 but Dublin Winter Lights is something we’re definitely looking forward to. From mid-November until 1st January, 21 locations, part of two walking trails around the city, have been transformed with colourful projections and lighting displays. The contrast between the bright lights and the dark evenings give the city such a special festive feel.
The Christmas Market in Dublin Castle returns this year and promises to be better than ever. Set against the magical backdrop of the only castle in the city, the markets open on December 8th and run until the 21st. You can buy some unique gifts, toys, high-quality Irish crafts, art, food and drink – things you’d never find on the high street. Markets are free to enter but get there early as they promise to be busy!
From the 28th of October 2021 to the 9th of January 2022, the already fantastic Dublin Zoo takes us on a journey around the world. The popular Wild Lights in Dublin Zoo returns and the theme this year is truly international. The walkways are illuminated with dozens of beautiful global landmarks and iconic symbols in the form of lanterns. Everything is outdoors and their one-way system makes sure everything is covid-compliant.
